Top Ten Signs You Should Not Be A Tech

Becky Roberts in a Recent Tech Republic Blog post very eloquently described ten signs that you are not cut out to be a support tech.

However Mrs. Roberts is obviously a well educated writer and I fear she has inadvertently written above the average reading level of her target audience. That target audience being readers who should themselves not even think about becoming a support tech.

To put her top ten signs in a language that her audience may more easily understand I have taken the liberty of re-phrasing her points as you will see below:

Top Ten Signs You Should Not Be A Tech

1 – You think every other tech in the world is a newb.
2 – You took a tech job just to further your career as a cowboy.
3 – You want to be a tech so you won’t have to deal with people.
4 – You thought it was just something fun to do from 9-5
5 – You don’t care if your company goes bankrupt as long as the backups are good.
6 – You think stress is something that only happens to managers.
7 – You want a star on your monitor for every smart thing you do at the office.
8 – If at first you don’t succeed, quit.
9 – You think problem solving was something you did in 7th grade math.
10 – Words Words Words – Don’t talk to me I’m a Tech damn it!

DX10 – Not tonight I have a headache.

A recent review of DX10 in MaximumPC has really busted the bubble of Microsoft’s heavily hyped technology for the serious PC gaming community.
The review runs the newest Direct X driver through its paces using the best video cards on the market and the latest DX10 games.
The results are less than spectacular. To read more about the DX10 Letdown visit the Computer Service Now Blog.

P.S. Be sure to read the full story before you buy a 24″ LCD or a $600 Video Card.

That Blank Line At The Top Of Internet Explorer

After seeing three customers in the last month use the Google or Yahoo’s search tool in place of the Internet Explorer address line I am starting to wonder if computers are making people stupid.

From experience I long ago learned that there is no point in trying to cure some one of this ridiculous habit as they literally won’t understand the words that come out of my mouth when I try to explain it.

If you are afraid to let your mind come down to this level and are still hoping you have misunderstood what I am complaining about then sorry about your luck. I am literally talking about people who would go to and type in “ “, find that site on the results page, and then follow the link to the actual page.

If people get any dumber I would imagine that some day Microsoft would replace the address line with their own internet search bar or perhaps with some pretty advertisement that requires you to click on a monkey to win a prize. The address line could then just become an advanced option for geeks or other throwbacks to the old days when you had to understand what a website was before you could go to one.

Guild Wars Support – BOT Response

This is a copy of the response I received the other day when I complained to NCsoft about all the BOTS running around in Guild Wars. To follow this from the beginning please read from the bottom up.

BOTS by the 1000’s
 Discussion Thread
 Response (GM Dynamite)
Hello,Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars Support Team.

We appreciate your report of the bots in Guild Wars and assure you that we take each report seriously. The Guild Wars Support Team is very aware of the bot situation in game and we take action against them everyday. However, as we take the ultimate course of action against an account that is guilty of using third-party programs to automate gameplay (we close them permanently), it sometimes takes time to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the account is indeed breaking the rules. Although it may seem at times like we are not doing anything about it, we are actually at work 24 hours a day observing, investigating, and closing as many of these accounts as we can find. We do apologize and invite you to join one of the many discussions that are ongoing on any of the fansite forums regarding this for the development team to read (

Please contact us if you have any further questions.

The auto response mentions nothing about my question. If you don’t mind can you tell me anyting of your plans to stop all the BOTS.

BOT – “Robot” or a type of computer program that do automated tasks. Such as farming.

They are in my opinion making this great game look very bad.

 Response (Erick)
Hello,Thanks for getting in touch with the Guild Wars Support Team regarding a potential rules violation.

Please note that we are unable to investigate violations based on information from external sources, or by researching IRC handles, external forum names, or other account names that are outside of the Guild Wars service. However, if you have witnessed this type of violation within the Guild Wars game, please let us know the following details:

– What was the date and time (including time zone) of the incident(s)?
– What is the name of the character(s) you are reporting?
– What is the name of the character you were playing at time of incident(s)?
– Did you have any screenshots of the incident? (If so, please ensure they are under 2 megabytes and in JPEG/.jpg or GIF/.gif format and attach them to this message.)
– Do you recall any additional details since you sent us your initial message?

Your information will aid us greatly in researching this issue, and we thank you for your assistance. Please note, however, that we are unable to reimburse you for any items or gold lost as the result of a transaction with another player. Also, all information related to the discovery and disciplining of an account will only be discussed between the violator and customer support. If we do find that a rule or rules were broken, you will not hear of any rulings related to the incident and the account(s) involved.

We appreciate your support of Guild Wars and your interest in keeping the game world pleasant for all players.

I love this game (have all 3 GW games) but seeing all the BOTS running out of town faster than I can count them makes me sick. Why should I buy any more of your games if you can’t or won’t stop this?

Hartford Civic Center Computer Rentals & Google

If any of you know me you will know I work for Xponex Web and Media Services. Our largest client is (A Nation Wide Computer Rental Firm) and they are very pleased with our work.

Results of course speak louder than words, or even Blogs, and the result that matters is the natural Google ranking for the search term “Computer Rentals”. Plural we are number two and singular we are number one.

Key to our success is thousands of pages on thousands of topics involving Technology and the need for its short term rental.

Recently we have been working on a series of rental pages for convention centers. The first in the series was the McCormick Place Rental page which was instantly successful beyond our wildest dream.

Always looking to find something that works, so we can stick with it of course, we did our second Convention Rental Page last week for the Hartford Civic Center.

Contrary to our expectations this time we can’t get Google to index the new Hartford Civic Center Rental page despite pointing to it dozens of times.

That is of course the one problem with this job. That being you do your research, write good content, do all the right things, and some times it just falls flat.

Well hopefully Google was just taking a break from our “New England States Computer Rental” theme and they will come around soon so the rest of you guys can see the nice work we are doing. LOL

Ultra-Portable Laptops – Cool Idea From Hartford Rental Page

Hartford Laptop Rentals - Ultra-PortableUltra-Portable laptops seam very appealing to me these days. Especially since I have family in Texas and I live in Ohio. That makes for a lot of traveling and my current standard size laptop is getting some age on it. Of course I am not getting any younger either. So the thought of of all the technology I need in a laptop half the size of what I lug around now is pretty intriguing. This idea popped into my head when came across a web page about Laptop Rentals in Hartford Ct. The page had a link to get a rental quote on an Ultra-Portable Laptop rental and the more I read the more interested I was. Though I doubt I will need a laptop rental for a trip to Hartford something in the Sub Compact Laptop category might be good company for my next trip to Texas.
